The great reformer, Martin Luther said, “The Bible is a remarkable fountain, the more draws and drinks from it, the more one is satisfied.”
Jesus’ message to the woman at the well was that her pursuits to find fulfillment in relationships would never satisfy like following him would.
The difference between pursuing things in this life and following Jesus – as your main pursuit – is that Jesus actually fulfills you as you draw and drink, where everything else falls short.
The good news of the Gospel is that we can be satisfied in this life now as we follow Jesus and find in him all the joys that we hope to experience in other things. As we live this life, whether it be our work, play, – or something in between, – walking with Jesus through it makes even the mundane our best pursuits.
- Pursuits in life without Jesus never fully satisfy.
- Jesus, as our main pursuit, means being filled from a source of life that only those who have experienced Him can speak about.
- All pursuits of life, with Jesus at the center, become sources of life as they are experienced with Him.
- Jesus makes all things better.
